Free World U Grant Writing Program
Welcome to the Free World U grant writing program. As a publicly-supported
501(3)(c) preK-12 virtual school, we present our standards-based content in a way
that is easy and efficient for all students to learn. We use virtual flashcards
that break down complex subjects into their most basic components. We can develop
a program for almost any educational need, or any social problem that education
can solve. We are thus eligible for a very large number of grants.
In our grant preparation, we work with a number of templates. These are complete
grant proposals that may either stand alone or be modified for special purposes.
Since we have only one primary program, the text of our proposals is very similar.
Grant funders often require that their proposals be in different formats or directed
to different purposes. Therefore, customization is frequently necessary.
There are two main positions we require to assist us in applying for grants. The
first is to research potential grant funders. The second position involves writing
and compiling grant proposals based on the research determined above.
See below for detailed descriptions of each position.
Grant Research Position
We have already identified our potential funders and know what information we want
to obtain from them. For example, we need their e-mail address, special interests,
name and title of the grant administrator, and the directions for submitting the
proposal. All of the required information is imported in to a highly customized
spreadsheet. We currently have a spreadsheet with the first few columns filled in,
including the name of the grantmaker.
The researcher’s job is to go to the website for each funder, or any other reputable
resource, and fill in the rest of the Excel columns which we have pre-identified.
This requires no special experience except an aptitude for doing Internet research
.
To apply, send a letter of interest explaining your talent for doing this kind of
work and interest in Free World U, along with your resume to
David Elliott.
When we have an opening, and if you appear to be a match to our needs, we will give
you a very small project to evaluate your work.
Grant Writing Position
Grant proposal writing requires strong technical writing skills and experience using
word processing software. If you meet these prerequisites, we can help you apply
them to grant writing using our online training program in just a few days.
We would supply you with the special interests of the funder along with the directions
for compiling a proposal. You would then reformat one or more of our existing templates,
inserting custom text where necessary.
When we have an opening, and if you appear to be a match to our needs, as a get
acquainted task, we will assign you a letter of inquiry, which often precedes a
full grant proposal. The letter of inquiry will be missing a paragraph and we will
provide instructions and any other information available, including the URL to the
funder's website in order for you to write the paragraph.
Application instructions can be found on our
Opportunities page.
