Student Assessment

As part of its accredited program, Free World U is excited to announce the addition of online assessments. The objective assessments serve to validate the self-reported learning experienced by students during the flashcard-based instruction. Our system is centered on the premise that students should progress through the curriculum at their own pace. Though we have no time constraints on our flashcards, reports from our students and results of a study on our program show that learning can be up to seven times faster than by traditional methods. We recognize, however, that each student is likely to encounter at least one subject that requires extra effort to master. At Free World U we are committed to helping each student reach his or her full potential. We believe that testing students on material they have reported not having mastered does nothing to reach this goal and may create a feeling of failure in the student. Instead, we have chosen to test students when they are comfortable with a subtopic of material, which typically encompasses between 10 and 50 virtual flashcards depending on the student’s grade level.

Free World U is committed to true learning, not memorization for a test. To ensure full mastery of a subject, the for-credit students will complete both short-term and long-term assessments, with each question tied directly to the Free World U curriculum standards and complimenting the flashcard instruction already received. The tight alignment of assessment questions to the curriculum coupled with the immediate feedback of assessment results allows students to quickly correct any gaps in their mastery of material.

The Free World U system of student assessment efficiently and effectively measures a student's comprehension of the material he/she has reported learning and provides further motivation for our students to remain actively engaged in their learning. In our accredited program, parents have access to a complete progress report of their child's advancement in the curriculum. Parents with multiple children using the system will be able to review the progress of all children from one central Parent Dashboard. From the dashboard and progress reports, parents and teachers are able to compare students’ flashcard-based instruction data with the respective assessment results. The assessments are also integral in awarding certificates of completion, course credit, and ultimately accredited Free World U high school diplomas to our for-credit students.
